# Getting started with Pixavif

Pixavif converts the JPEG, PNG and GIF images in your Media Library to AVIF and WebP on your own server. There is no account, no API key and no monthly limit. Your originals are never changed: the new files are saved next to them in `wp-content/uploads-pixavif`.

Visitors get the smallest format their browser supports. Almost every browser today takes AVIF, older ones get WebP, and the rest get your original. Nothing breaks for anyone.

## When something needs attention

The Overview shows a short list of things to check at the top, for example a missing server library or another converter plugin. Each item has a **How to fix** link to a guide on this site. Start with [Troubleshooting](https://plugstack.dev/docs/pixavif-avif-webp-image-converter/troubleshooting/) for the full list.
