Pixavif: AVIF & WebP Image Converter
Convert images to AVIF and WebP on your own server. No limits, no account, and your originals are never changed.
- Version 1.0.0

Images are usually the heaviest part of a page. Most converter plugins send them to a paid cloud service with a monthly quota, or fail quietly on hosts without the right image library.
Pixavif converts on your own server, as many images as you have, and checks the server first. If AVIF or WebP is missing, it tells you exactly what to ask your host.
What it does
-
AVIF and WebP, unlimited
Every size WordPress creates is converted, on your server. No account, no API key, no credits.
-
Originals stay untouched
Copies are saved in their own folder. Remove them any time and the site goes back to the originals.
-
A real server check
Pixavif encodes a test image before you start, and writes the message to your host if a format is missing.
-
Picture tags or server rewrite
Picture tags work on every server and CDN. Rewrite rules keep your HTML unchanged on Apache, LiteSpeed and nginx.
-
Runs in the background
Bulk conversion keeps going when you close the page, with pause, resume and automatic retries.
-
Tells you when something breaks
A full disk, a stuck queue or missing files after a site move show up on the Overview with a fix guide.
See it in action
Pixavif converts the JPEG, PNG and GIF images in your Media Library to AVIF and WebP on your own server. There is no account, no API key and no monthly limit. Your original images are never changed: the new files are saved next to them, and every browser gets the smallest format it supports.
Before anything is converted, Pixavif tests your server with a real conversion. If something is missing, it tells you what, in plain words, and writes the message to your host for you. If something goes wrong later, the Overview says so with a link to a step by step fix.

Questions
Is it free?
Yes. Every feature is free and there is no limit on the number of images. Conversion runs on your own server.
Does it change my original images?
No. Originals are never edited or replaced. AVIF and WebP copies are saved in wp-content/uploads-pixavif.
What if my server cannot create AVIF?
Pixavif creates WebP only and tells you how to get AVIF, usually by switching to PHP 8.1 or newer in your hosting panel.
Does it work with page builders and caching plugins?
Yes. It is tested with Elementor, Divi, Beaver Builder, WooCommerce and the common cache and lazy loading plugins. Clear the page cache once after the first bulk run.
